Myhill plays well but sloppy finishing to blame

Posted by admin

The Hull goalkeeper was rightly acclaimed as man of the match, however he would still have been the most effective player on the pitch if Spurs had won 3 – 0. He made several superb saves, ‘worldys’ to use the latest phrase,to deny Modric Keane Palacious Defoe and Crouch.  I have to say that Crouch was particularly wasteful near the end first shooting from a ridiculous angle and then a lazy header when  putting any sort of direction on a perfect ball in would have left the keeper with no chance.

Harry Redknapp really needs a rethink on how to deal with teams that come to White Hart Lane just to defend. It is happening more and more the stronger that Spurs get the less the opposition wants to come out and play. Who would have thought Spurs wouldn’t manage a goal at home against Hull , Wolves or Stoke? They all just camped in and defended and Spurs were suckered by all three. Spurs have the talent to cope with this but unfortunately didn’t .  Once might be unlucky but three times is a worrying trend and if Spurs want to mount a realistic challenge for fourth spot this wastefulness has to stop now.Live Football Online

Of course most people consider Keane and Defoe as an ineffective pairing so were disappointed with the starting line up.  Crouch and Defoe or Pavlyuchenko and Keane or any combination of big and small would be preferable to a small and small pairing.  Spurs really should know enough about Anthony Gardner to exploit his weaknesses yet they really didn’t get at him at all.  If teams are going to keep turning up with this game plan Spurs need the anti game plan because it is becoming expensive keep giving away the home bankers.

Many fans are wondering where is Gio Dos Santos because he is a tricky talent who hasn’t had a chance yet didn’t make the bench again against Hull. He would add a bit of unpredictability that might unlock a stubborn defence.

Rafa s got more lives than a cat

Posted by admin

It seems every few matches that I think to myself ‘that must be it for Rafa! ‘  He is making a mess of things on a very consistent basis but he seems to keep getting away with it.   It surely can’t last much longer.  His next two matches are both massive tests of character.  Stoke away is not for the faint hearted at the best of times. He will do well to get a draw there. Then a few days later its Spurs at home. That is usually a home win but at the moment Spurs are looking considerably stronger than the reds.

If they were to lose either of these I would think they could say goodbye to the champions league spot, particularly the Spurs game as it really widen the gap between the two teams.

Unfortunately for Benitez he has Torres and Gerrard injured again for the matches.  He can’t pull in his most imaginative player Benayoun either as he is also injured.  Not that he has been using him as much as he could anyway. He is frustratingly unadventurous in his philosophy.Live Football Online

His biggest problem though is that he really has no goal threat without those three players.  He might get an odd goal from Kuyt or Babel, if selected, but they can’t be thinking they will score regularly.

Unfortunately he has sold plenty of strikers that are still playing well in the Premiership and not replaced them.  He should be embarrassed that Craig Bellamy, Peter Crouch, Robbie Keane, Emile Heskey, Michael Owen are all top strikers at clubs that are doing better than Liverpool.

Its all very well saying he needs to be given money to invest in players but at some point he is going to have to be held accountable for wasting the resources he has already been given. It is undeniable that the strength of the squad has diminished in his charge.

Mike Parry of TalkSport picks a fight with the Yid Army and makes a prized knob out of himself.
The entire stand turn against him and then he tries to climb the stand to face the fans. The steward, in true pantomime fashion, walks up behind and puts him in his place.

Tottenham Vs Burnley 5-0 – Harry Redknapp Full Interview – [High Quality] – September 26 2009

Posted by admin

Spurs 5-0 Burnley
Tottenham manager Harry Redknapp was pleased with his side’s comprehensive 5-0 win over Burnley.

The Spurs boss opted to start with strikers Robbie Keane and Jermain Defoe, leaving in-form Peter Crouch on the bench, but Keane produced a sublime performance to bag four goals.

And Redknapp admitted it was tough to leave Crouch out of the side.

“It was a difficult decision to leave Peter Crouch out today having played so fantastic against Preston,” he said. “It wasn’t easy, believe me, it was a very difficult decision for me.

“But I decided to go with the two little ‘uns as we started the season and they played well again today. Crouchy is in great form as well so it’s a nice problem.

“The game could have been over at half-time, we missed a couple of great opportunities to finish it off.

“It was a good performance and it’s been a good week for us – two great performances.

Good start
“We’re going well, 15 points is a smashing start for us from seven games, we’ve just got to keep it going and see where it takes us.

“Keep playing like that and the fans will enjoy the football. We’re an attacking team. I thought Niko Kranjcar had a great debut today, I thought his ability on the ball was superb, he worked hard and passed it great – he’s a real Tottenham player.”

Redknapp was quick to hail Keane’s finishing in front of goal but the Spurs boss had praise for Owen Coyle’s Burnley, despite the emphatic scoreline.

“They pass it, they keep the ball well and they came out second half and started to pass it and it gets a bit frustrating to get the ball.

“They have an extra man in midfield who can play, Alexander, who is a good passer.

“They play well, they’re a good team I think. But every time we went forward we look dangerous and I feel we missed a lot of good chances as well to make the score even higher.”
